Let’s talk about editing.
While I tailor my editing style to each event, I’m also flexible and can adapt to whatever look you and your partner love most. Every couple is different, and your photos should reflect that.
Here are some of the most popular modern editing styles in wedding photography:
Light and Airy – Bright, soft, and dreamy with a romantic feel.
Nostalgic Film Look (Dark and Moody) – Rich tones, deeper shadows, and a timeless, cinematic vibe.
Color-Faithful – True-to-life colors that feel natural, vibrant, and authentic.
Light and Airy – A modern favorite and a consistently popular choice. This style draws inspiration from painters like Claude Monet, with its soft tones, pastel palettes, and gentle use of light.
You’ve likely seen this look across wedding magazines and high-end photography portfolios. It emphasizes brightness and openness by favoring negative space—the “air” in the image—while minimizing heavy shadows and darker tones.
The result is a clean, luminous aesthetic that feels romantic, dreamy, and almost ethereal. Compared to minimally edited photos, this style lifts shadows and enhances highlights, creating a balanced, soft lighting effect that flatters both the scene and the subject.
Film Look / Dark and Moody – There’s no single name for this style—you might even call it your own signature look. It leans into warmer tones while preserving deeper shadows, creating a rich, cinematic feel.
Colors are often slightly desaturated but still remain true to their natural tones, giving the images a grounded, authentic quality. This style has grown increasingly popular, especially with the resurgence of film-inspired aesthetics seen across social media.
I personally love this approach. It brings out texture, depth, and atmosphere, allowing natural elements to play a strong role in the overall look. It works beautifully in outdoor settings—lush greens, golden fields, and especially during sunset’s magic hour—but also translates incredibly well in urban environments and city landscapes.
Color-Faithful – Simple, elegant, and timeless. This style focuses on maintaining true-to-life colors while carefully balancing contrast, highlights, and shadows.
While it may appear straightforward, achieving a color-faithful look requires a precise and intentional approach. If preserving specific details—like the exact shade of your bouquet or carefully chosen decor—is important to you, this style is an excellent choice.
Because it relies on accuracy, lighting and exposure need to be dialed in correctly during the shoot. It’s less about transforming the image in post and more about refining what’s already there. The editing process focuses on subtle adjustments, preserving natural tones and ensuring the image remains as close as possible to how it was experienced in real life.
I often recommend this approach for couples who prefer a more authentic, minimally edited look—one that stays true to the original scene while enhancing it just enough to feel polished and complete.
